ANCB's Criteria for Continuing Education 


I.  General Criteria: Continuing Education Programs must:

  • Be presented by professionally acknowledged educators with expertise in the subject matter (except for non-supervised programs);
  • Foster the competency and skills required for the practitioner in providing services for the client, and;
  • Cover subjects relevant to the practice of naturopathy.


II.  Types of Continuing Education Accepted

Supervised activities

Conferences, seminars or workshops in naturopathy or related fields; see ANCB’s list of pre-approved providers and sources.  Must provide certificate of attendance or completion.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs provided by professional healthcare licensing agencies, hospitals, or institutions. Must provide certificate of attendance or completion.

CPR Certification and recertification: CPR courses are acceptable.  Must provide proof of current certification.

Apprenticeships: ANCB will accept an apprenticeship for continuing education credit.  Verification must include the dates of the apprenticeship, and a signed acknowledgement from the supervisor.

Non-supervised activities

Original Research: ANCB may award continuing education credit for participation in research that advances the field of naturopathy. Verification must include the dates, purpose and summary of research, and disclosure of any fiduciary relationships.

Authoring: ANCB may award continuing education credit for researching and writing an article for a professional publication or book. Credit is determined by the length and complexity of the article. Verification must include a copy of the article or book.

Teaching/ Presentation: ANCB may award continuing education credit for teaching and presentation.  Up to three credit hours are awarded for preparation for each hour of the actual presentation. Verification must include documentation of presentation (outline or syllabus, promotional materials, sponsor or host contact information, etc).


Other courses or activities are considered on a case-by-case basis.
